Speaker of Parliament Tsveta Karayancheva has made a statement on the press conference of the President of the Republic of Bulgaria to mark the first anniversary since he took office.

Tsveta Karayancheva thinks that the Head of State has painted a grim picture of Bulgaria, and his words about indifference and lack of “understanding and cooperation” from Brussels give away his annoyance at the strong European support for the government.

She said that each parliamentary group votes in accordance with the election programme, which has granted them seats in Parliament. The majority supports the Council of Ministers elected by them and this cannot be called “a notary which makes decisions official”, but responsibility to the voters who have elected their MPs to vote in this way. This is part of the democratic process, she emphasised.

Tsveta Karayancheva said that the critically low confidence in the National Assembly can be explained by a number of factors. “To a large extent it is also due to the rude and unbridled attacks of the Head of State, who by Constitution is supposed to unite the nation and have a dialogue with the other institutions and spare his insults”, said the Speaker of Parliament.
