Speaker of Parliament Tsveta Karayancheva has attended the celebration of the 140th anniversary of the Liberation of the town of Targovishte.
She attended the flag raising ceremony at “Svoboda” square. The Speaker of Parliament took part in the procession to Morenata and the flower laying ceremony in memory of those who had lost their lives for the freedom of Targovishte.
Today we should remember that monuments can be destroyed by time, but the memory, which lives on in the generations and inspires them to do great things, cannot be destroyed, said the Speaker of Parliament in her address. In her words, we should erect a spiritual monument in our souls of the great epic of the Liberation, and pass it on to those who will come after us. Then we will have fulfilled our duty to our Father land, added Tsveta Karayancheva.
Our freedom has been suffered for by all Bulgarians, paid for with streams of Bulgarian and Russian blood, legitimized by the power of spirit and weapons, emphasised the Speaker of Parliament. It is our duty to pass on the magic of this freedom to the generations, so that Bulgaria lives on, added Tsveta Karayancheva. The Speaker of Parliament urged that we should “remember that the memory that lives on in the generations and inspires us is indestructible”.
We have to know that our freedom is not to be taken for granted and is not a duty but a great and sacred privilege, and therefore, we should not only live with it, but also keep it forever, said Tsveta Karayancheva. We have to know that we are part of a brave martyr nation, carry its memory, its national idea, and its national vigour, she added.
