Speaker of Parliament Tsveta Karayancheva and MPs attend ceremony to honour victims of the communist regime
01/02/2018
Speaker of Parliament Tsveta Karayancheva and MPs attended the ceremony to honour the victims of the communist regime in front of the chapel and memorial wall by the Palace of Culture.
It is important that our children remember what happened then and not repeat such mistakes, said the Speaker of Parliament. In her words, on this day we should bow our heads and say “Forgive us”.
Tsveta Karayancheva recalled that the National Assembly had condemned the communist regime. Since 2009 concrete steps have been made to reveal the truth about repressions during the communist regime, she said and added that in 2010 the Interior Minister had given over 1 million files from the State Security Committee to the Dossiers Commission.
Today we are making one more step and that is to include the communist regime in the history textbooks at school, said the Speaker of Parliament and thanked the Minister of Education for implementing this idea.
A prayer service was held at the ceremony to honour the victims of communism. After that wreaths and flowers were laid at the memorial wall.
