National Assembly President Prof. Ognian Gerdjikov met with the Speaker of the National Assembly /Milli Mejlis/ of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Murtuz Aleskerov.

The Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline, which is under construction now, could be branched out in order to supply oil to Bulgaria and other European countries, the Speaker of the National Assembly of Azerbaijan, Mr. Murtuz Aleskerov, stated during his meeting with Prof. Gerdjikov. He underscored that this issue will soon be discussed with the Bulgarian Ministers accompanying the President of the Republic of Bulgaria Georgi Parvanov during his forthcoming visit to Azerbaijan in October.

National Assembly President Gerdjikov said that Bulgaria would work for intensifying bilateral relations. The two were unanimous that still the level of trade and economic relations between Bulgaria and Azerbaijan is unsatisfactory. Bulgaria is also interested in stepping up the transport cooperation between the two countries and within the multilateral agreement on the TRASEKA Europe-the Caucasus-Asia transport corridor as well, Gerdjikov added.

The two sides declared a wish for invigoration of bilateral relations in all areas within the context of their common European and Euro-Atlantic integration.
