At the ceremony, which took place at the Monument to the Tsar Liberator in Sofia, the participants fell to their knees and held a moment of silence to honour the memory of those who had lost their lives for the freedom of Bulgaria. The national anthem was played, and wreaths and flowers were laid at the monument.

The commemoration ceremony and fireworks were attended by President of the Republic of Bulgaria  Rumen Radev, who received the representative units of the Bulgarian army lined up in parade order, Prime Minister Boyko Borissov, Defence Minister Krasimir Karakachanov, His Holiness Bulgarian Patriarch Neophyte and His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and all Russia, Mayor of Sofia Yordanka Fandakova, diplomats and many citizens.
