The Rescue of the Bulgarian Jews is one of the most prominent acts of the civil society in the 20-centurty Bulgarian history, said Speaker of Parliament Tsveta Karayancheva at the launch of the book “75 Years: The Unforgotten Faces of the Rescue”. Maxim Benvenisti, President of Shalom Foundation and head of the editors who compiled the collection of stories, talked about the book, which came out at the eve of the day of the Rescue of Bulgarian Jews and the victims of the Holocaust, the 10th March.

This publication is a noble and respectable act of recognition and respect to the patriotic and man-loving Bulgarians, who in times of hardship had the courage and determination to state their moral choice in defence of humanism and tolerance as eternal human values, said Tsveta Karayancheva in her address.

She added that the rescue of the Bulgarian Jews was a deeply humane act, a measure of the power of love for man, morals and tolerance. Let us remember that commemorating the Holocaust we send an important message especially to young people and the modern society for tolerance, well-wishing and love for people, she also said.

The book launch was attended by MPs, Deputy Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev, a delegation from Israel, involving representatives of all large organisations and associations of the Bulgarian Jews, members of the Organisation of the Jews in Bulgaria “Shalom”, the Union of Bulgarian Jews in Israel “Ehud Oley Bulgaria”.
