Speaker of Parliament Tsveta Karayancheva attended the commemorative ceremony for the 75th anniversary of the Paratroopers Brigade and the Bulgarian Special Operations Forces in Plovdiv.
Tsveta Karayancheva commended the Bulgarian soldiers for their valour and courage, bravery and dignity in protecting the honour of the military profession and the Bulgarian flag. Formed 75 years ago as part of the air forces, the brigade had its first taste of gunpowder in the battlefields during WWII where many of its soldiers lost their lives, said the Speaker of Parliament. Nevertheless, this did not crush its high fighting spirit and self-sacrifice in the name of the people and the fatherland, added Tsveta Karayancheva. In her words, even today, when the world is talking about hybrid wars and new security doctrines, the Bulgarian Special Forces demonstrate impeccable professionalism in fulfilling their commitments for post-war reconstruction and peace keeping in different parts of the world, counter terrorism and illegal migration, partner with NATO’s units, and protect the authority of Bulgaria’s armed forces.
The Speaker of Parliament received the parade order and addressed the brigade, laid flowers at the monument of the fallen paratroopers, and attended the requiescat.
Tsveta Karayancheva attended the official opening of the Tactical Operations Centre and the premises for accommodating the military formation. On the occasion of the anniversary, she gave Brigade Commander Brigadier General Yavor Mateev an honorary badge of the National Assembly.
