Speaker of Parliament Tsveta Karayancheva to the citizens to Veliko Turnovo: You all are the builders of modern Bulgaria – strong, prosperous and respected
22/03/2018
You all are the builders of modern Bulgaria – strong, prosperous and respected – by honouring our ancestors and investing your creative energy and entrepreneurship, said Speaker of Parliament Tsveta Karayancheva in her address to the citizens of Veliko Turnovo celebrating the day of the city.
There are many significant events that make Veliko Turnovo a sacred city, emphasised the Speaker of Parliament in her speech in Veliko Turnovo at the flag raising ceremony. Every stone here is history, and the bridges that connect our glorious past with the present and future are strong and monolithic as the fortress of Tsarevets, added Tsveta Karayancheva.
Today we celebrate the day of the old capital city, the day when in 1230 Tsar Ivan Asen II defeated the army of Theodore Komnenos at Klokotnitsa, and according to the Christian Church calendar, it is the day we honour the Holy 40 Martyrs, said Tsveta Karayancheva. This double holiday reminds us that the Bulgarian military might and the power of our Orthodox faith have always walked hand in hand, she emphasised and added that they had guided the Bulgarian nation in times of growth and supported it in times of despair. As long as you keep the Bulgarian spirit, we will not give up the things we “love, respect and cherish”, she added in her speech.
The festive events in Veliko Turnovo started with an official liturgy in the “Holy 40 Martyrs” church, delivered by Metropolitan Bishop of Veliko Turnovo Grigorii.
The celebrations will be attended by Chair of GERB parliamentary group Tsvetan Tsvetanov, MPs from the Veliko Turnovo constituency, representatives of institutions, and many citizens.
Hundreds of people joined the formal procession walking with the portraits of the donors of the “Holy 40 Martyrs” church to the city centre. The procession was led by pupils from “St Nikolas” Sunday school, the military brass band at the National Military University “Vasil Levski”, students and public figures.
Tsveta Karayancheva also attended an official session of the Veliko Turnovo Municipal Council.
