22/03/2018
An exhibition in Parliament has presented cartoons by Boris Dimovski and literary characters from the works of Nikolay Haytov. Chair of the Culture and Media Committee Vezhdi Rashidov opened the exhibition organised by Boris Dimovski’s descendants and “Memory” Foundation.
Boris Dimovski and Nikolay Haytov, as well as many other famous Bulgarian artists, were members of Parliament in different periods of time, said Vezhdi Rashidov to the MPs and guests attending the ceremony. These are great and distinguished persons who have done a lot for Bulgaria, he said. The sketches of the great Bulgarian artist depict representatives of different political forces, famous personalities, and interesting events.
Nikolay Haytov’s son and Chair of “Memory” Foundation Zdravets Haytov thanked for the opportunity to present the exhibition in the National Assembly. It is not by chance that we organised the exhibition during the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU; it is in support of “Plovdiv 2019 – European Capital of Culture”, he said. In order to have support for culture, we need the Parliament to decide on an increased budget for culture, emphasised Zdravets Haytov.
The exhibition also presents drawings by students from the National School for Fine Arts “Iliya Petrov”, who participated in the competition for illustrations of “Wild Stories” by Nikolay Haytov, held in commemoration of the 95th anniversary of his birth.
In the eve of the Christian celebration of Annunciation, the exhibition was opened with a performance of the Pirin Folk Ensemble. The performers were invited to the Parliament by MP Daniela Saveklieva. She said the ensemble was a guardian of Bulgarian traditions and ambassador of folklore music and dance from the Pirin region not only in Bulgaria but also around the world.
