Speaker of Parliament Tsveta Karayancheva spoke with Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union Martin Chungong. A Bulgarian parliamentary delegation led by the Speaker of Parliament is attending the 138th Inter-Parliamentary Union General Assembly in Geneva.
On behalf of the Bulgarian parliamentarians Tsveta Karayancheva expressed full support for the work of the Inter-Parliamentary Union and emphasised that Bulgaria tried to contribute to the discussion and proposals on the issues discussed. The topic of the general debate of this year’s Assembly, related to migrants and refugees, is pressing, said the Speaker of Parliament and added that the parliamentarians’ contribution to this was significant and well recognised.
Tsveta Karayancheva emphasised that Bulgaria was among the countries with a rising number of women parliamentarians. We are concerned about last year’s trend towards lower representation of women in parliamentary life, she said and added that another important issue was the inclusion and involvement of young people in political decision making.
