NATIONAL ASSEMBLY PRESIDENT PROF. OGNIAN GERDJIKOV MET WITH THE SPEAKER OF THE CHAMBER OF DEPUTIES OF THE ITALIAN PARLIAMENT, MR. PIER FERDINANDO CASINI

Today National Assembly President Prof. Ognian Gerdjikov met with the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies of the Italian Parliament, Mr. Pier Ferdinando Casini, who is paying an official visit to Bulgaria.

Prof. Gerdjikov thanked for the Italian support for Bulgaria’s EU and NATO membership. “We rely on your support on 16 and 17 December also when, we hope, the completion of the EU accession negotiations with Bulgaria would be officially announced and a date for signing an Accession Treaty would be set,” he added.

Mr. Casini underscored that Italy highly assesses Bulgria’s efforts in political and institutional aspect. “Our wish is, the date for your membership to be set as soon as possible,” he said.

The two agreed that there is a necessity of working for the improvement of infrastructure, and especially the construction of the Transport Corridor VIII. “We hope that Italy would support this project, as well as its funding by the EU funds,” Gerdjikov said. He expressed satisfaction with the excellent trade and economic relations between the two countries.
