Today, 24 February 2005, National Assembly Vice-President Ms. Kamelia Kassabova met with the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Swedish Parliament, Mr. Urban Ahlin. He pays a visit to Bulgaria at the invitation of his Bulgarian counterpart Venko Aleksandrov, Chairman of the Foreign Policy, Defence and Security Committee of the National Assembly.

The development of relations between Bulgaria and the Kingdom of Sweden, priorities in the legislative agenda of the National Assembly related to Bulgaria’s EU membership, as well as the prospects for future partnership between the two friendly countries within the European Union, were among the accents in the conversation.

Ms. Kassabova assured the Swedish guest that the Bulgarian Parliament works intensively on synchronizing the Bulgarian legislation with the acquis communautaire. She underlined the significance of the amendments to the Constitution of the Republic of Bulgaria, recently adopted with consensus by Parliament, and confirmed the Bulgarian society’s expectations for signing the treaty on Bulgaria's accession to the European Union on 25 April 2005.

Both expressed their satisfaction with the fruitful development of traditionally friendly relations between the two countries.
