National Assembly President Assoc. Prof. Borislav Velikov received a letter from the Speaker of the Kingdom of Sweden, Mr. Bjorn von Sydow, in response to Prof. Gerdjikov’s appeal to the Presidents of European Parliaments on the problem with the Bulgarian medics sentenced to death in Libya.

The letter says:

“Excellency,

This is to follow up on your letter regarding the trial of five Bulgarian nurses in Libya, a case which raises concern and which needs greatest attention.

As Speaker of Parliament, I cannot myself take stance in the debate but I do feel it is my duty to insure that information about this urgent matter is spread within the Swedish Parliament.

I will forward our correspondence to the political party groups of the Swedish Parliament and to the Committee on Foreign Affairs.”
