The National Assembly elected Diana Kovacheva as Ombudsman

By a large majority, the National Assembly elected Diana Kovacheva as Ombudsman of the Republic of Bulgaria. She took an oath before the parliament.

When presenting her nomination, Krasimir Velchev, the Chairman of the Commission on Religions and Human Rights, noted that Diana Kovacheva has years of experience in the field of human rights protection and has demonstrated that she has the necessary professional qualities and protects the rights of Bulgarian citizens in the last nine months since becoming an ombudsman.

The Chairman of the Commission on Religions and Human Rights emphasised that Diana Kovacheva has committed to maintaining the authority of the institution at both national and international levels. Krasimir Velchev added that she also has the support of many non-governmental organizations.

The National Assembly adopted amendments to the State Intelligence Agency Act at second reading.
