The head of the Bulgarian delegation at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (PABSEC), Peter Kanev, was elected Vice-Chairman of the Economic, Commercial, Technological and Environmental Affairs Committee of the Assembly. This took place during a video conference meeting of the PABSEC Committee on 7 July 2020.

This meeting successfully concluded the four-year term of office of the Chairman of the Committee on Economic, Commercial, Technological and Environmental Affairs of the Assembly and member of the Bulgarian delegation Krasimir Velchev. At that meeting, Krasimir Velchev presented a report on the Committee's work and a draft resolution on the subject “Development of Financial Technologies in the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Member States”. Participants thanked the outgoing Committee chairman for the excellent work and successful completion of the mandate.

The head of the Bulgarian delegation to PABSEC, Peter Kanev, also participated in the meeting of the Assembly’s Cultural Affairs Committee. At this meeting the parliamentarians held a discussion on the topic “Preservation and Contemporary Role of Historical Medical Institutions in Black Sea Economic Co-operation Member States”. Meeting participants adopted a report and a recommendation that will be presented at the next meeting of the PABSEC General Assembly.

The PABSEC Legal and Political Affairs Committee will also meet in video-conferencing format on 9 July 2020. Parliamentarians are scheduled to discuss and adopt a report and a recommendation on the topic “Legislative Support for the Implementation of Projects linking Europe and Asia (One Belt, One Road)”. Election of Committee vice-chairmen will take place. The National Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria will be represented by the Deputy Head of the Bulgarian delegation in PABSEC, Pavel Hristov, and the Member of Parliament, Ramadan Atalay.

PABSEC brings together 12 countries in the Black Sea area – Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Georgia, Greece, Moldova, Romania, the Russian Federation, Serbia, Turkey and Ukraine. Bulgaria joined the Assembly in 1997.
