Today we’re not in need of messiahs, but leaders -- thoughtful, fearless, respectful, ready to renounce themselves for the common good, said the President of the National Assembly, Tsveta Karayancheva, in her speech at the ceremonial meeting - a fireworks display in the town of Karlovo, dedicated to the 183rd anniversary of Vasil Levski's birth. The President of Parliament welcomed the honour guard at Vasil Levski Square and placed flowers at the monument to the Apostle of Freedom.

Today we celebrate the birth of one person from the future, with no possessions other than sense of measure, historical righteousness and love for his compatriots, Tsveta Karayancheva said. Vasil Levski realised that it is not self-closure, but inclusion that our people need, she stressed. The President of Parliament recalled the vows of the Apostle - that Bulgaria needs not a king, “but a people's government” and that everyone in the country should live under the same pure and holy laws, as God has given.

Today, instead of rights, we are asserting powers, judging on behalf of others, speaking words that are not worth one penny, Tsveta Karayancheva said.

She stressed that, as we teach our children gratitude, we should teach ourselves remorse and humility. For a man to be free, he must want the freedom of others - freedom in full, individual freedom, freedom of the people, the President of the National Assembly added.

At the ceremonial fireworks display in the town of Karlovo, dedicated to the 183rd anniversary of Vasil Levski's birth, present were MPs, local authorities, journalists and citizens. A garland of gratitude for the Apostle's cause was placed at the monument as per tradition.
