The National Assembly rejected the President’s veto on a provision of the Judiciary Act
30/09/2020
The National Assembly rejected the President's veto on a provision of the Judiciary Act. Lawmakers voted in favour of the re-adoption of the amendments with 149 votes “in favour” and 66 votes “against”. The veto was rejected with the votes of GERB, DPS, “Will – the Bulgarian Patriots” and “United Patriots” and two of the independent MPs. The MPs from the “BSP for Bulgaria” parliamentary group and seven independent MPs voted “against”.

The veto challenged the possibility that the election members of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC), after the end of their term of office or upon their early termination for valid reasons, may receive a promotion, i.e. to be appointed to a position in the judiciary system, one level higher than the one they held before being elected to the SJC.
