10/02/2021
As they were aware of their responsibility, the founding fathers adopted our first constitution called “Tarnovska”, which establishes democratic outset of the social and the political Life and gives way to the European development of Bulgaria. This was stated by the President of the National Assembly Tsveta Karayancheva in plenary on the occasion of 142 years since the the convening of the Constituent Assembly in Veliko Tarnovo.

This is the birth date of the Bulgarian Parliament, an important date for the restored Bulgarian country, for its construction, management and development, the President of the Parliament noted. Tsveta Karayancheva pointed out that the representatives of the Bulgarian people from all parts of the country, who are clearly aware of the importance of their mission, are gathering in the old capital city. During the Constituent Assembly in the hall there were harsh confrontations, fierce disputes and opposition, but also unification in the name of Bulgaria, she added.

The President of the Parliament pointed out that the founding fathers added to their work a revival zeal, it expresses years of accumulated political energy, and above all their will for creation. They knew well that it was up to them what the Bulgarian country would be, whether it would be a part of the modern world, whether the Bulgarian people would get new horizons, Tsveta Karayancheva added. She recalled the words of Exarch Antim I at the opening of the Constituent Assembly: “… the success of the cause we have gathered for depends on the political wisdom we will show.”

The President of the Parliament noted that the 44th National Assembly is at the end of its mandate. Soon voters will give their assessment on how we have worked, have we met their expectations, have we responded to their problems, have we found the right solutions, said Tsveta Karayancheva. “However, whatever weaknesses and mistakes we made, I believe that we did not deviate from the right direction — Bulgaria to be a part of the family of democratic and rule of law countries striving for peace, freedom and prosperity,” she said.
