11/05/2005
On the occasion of the ratification of the Treaty of Accession of Bulgaria and Romania to the European Union, National Assembly President Assoc. Prof. Borislav Velikov made a statement.
“Undoubtedly, 11 May 2005 will remain one of the most important days in the national history of Bulgaria and the history of the Bulgarian Parliament. Today the Bulgarian MPs have ratified a treaty not just bringing us back to the family of the European peoples but giving a start to the real European present of Bulgaria, ” the statement says.
“I am convinced that the ratification of the Treaty of Accession of Bulgaria to the European Union is one of the most significant legislative acts of the Bulgarian Parliament that provides for democratic development in United Europe to this country – a dream from the years of transition and a goal of the Bulgarian politics during the last 15 years. From now on, we start pursuing a new and not easy to achieve goal – meeting the European standards in politics, in economy and in everyday life of all Bulgarians,” National Assembly President Velikov added.
“I am confident that ratifying the Accession Treaty exactly on the Day of Sts Cyril and Methodius brings not just symbolic but also enormous practical meaning. This is so because only when the goals of the common people coincide with those of the politicians, then we are able to achieve our national ideals. Bulgaria’s accession to the European Union is such a goal that we are going to achieve together,” he concluded.
