Meeting - MPs - Rudolf Bindig
24/08/2005
The case of the Bulgarian medics in Libya and the ratification of the Treaty on Bulgaria's Accession to EU were among the subjects under discussion during the meeting of Darinka Stantcheva, Evgeni Kirilov and Borislav Kitov MPs with Mr. Rudolf Bindig, Vice-President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and Head of the German delegation to PACE.
On 16 September 2005, the PACE Committee on Legal Affairs and Human Rights will consider a report by Mr. Tony Lloyd, who is Head of the UK national delegation to PACE and the Assembly's rapporteur on the case of the Bulgarian medical professionals in Libya, it emerged at the meeting. The report will reflect Tony Lloyd's recent visit to Libya.
As concerns the Treaty on Bulgaria's Accession to EU, most of the MPs of the German Bundestag have the good will to ratify it in mid-term, taking into account the conclusions of the European Commission Report on Bulgaria's progress to EU membership.
In the course of the meeting, Bindig's nomination by Germany for Commissioner for Human Rights of the Council of Europe was presented.
Germany's aid intended to mitigate the effects of flooding in Bulgaria was discussed also.
