Foreign Policy Committee Chairman will extend invitations to Ministers to hear them on topical foreign policy issues

Today, 24 August 2005, the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Policy hold its first formal meeting chaired by Solomon Passy. Attending the meeting was the Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivailo Kalfin. Bulgaria's foreign policy priorities were discussed in the course of the meeting.

Bulgaria's EU membership and the case of the Bulgarian medics in Libya, as well as the interaction between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Policy, were the main subjects under discussion.

The Chaiperman of the Committee on Foreign Policy Solomon Passy will extend invitations to the Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivailo Kalfin and the Minister of European Affairs Meglena Kuneva to inform the Committee about topical issues related to Bulgaria's European integration and preparation for EU membership.

On the case of the Bulgarian medics in Libya, the Foreign Policy Committee Chairman will invite representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Justice.

Solomon Passy will also extend invitations to the Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivailo Kalfin and the Minister of Defence Veselin Bliznakov to hear them on the current situation in Iraq, as well as on the progress in the negotiations with USA for building US military facilities on Bulgarian territory.
