Today, 24 August 2005, National Assembly President Georgi Pirinski met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Germany to Bulgaria H.E. Mr. Harald Kindermann.

Cooperation between the National Assembly and the German Bundestag, Germany's aid for the people hit by the recent floods in Bulgaria, as well as the Germany's support for Bulgaria’s full EU membership, were among the items discussed at the meeting.

The high assessment given to the cooperation between the Parliaments of the two countries was reiterated by Pirinski and Kindermann. Both sides expressed their satisfaction with the active relations between the parliamentary standing committees and within the parliamentary friendship groups.

National Assembly President thanked for the relief aid extended by Germany to the flooding-hit areas in Bulgaria.

National Assembly President familiarized his guest with the implementation of the legislative priorities of the 40th National Assembly related to the harmonization of the Bulgarian legislation with the European one.

Germany will give its categorical and consistent support to Bulgaria in its EU accession process in future, Ambassador Kindermann said. The possibility for due ratification of the Treaty on Bulgaria's Accession to EU was discussed in this context.

The prospects for deepening of the cooperation between the Republic of Bulgaria and the Islamic Republic of Iran were the main topic during the meeting of National Assembly President Georgi Pirinski with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Iran to Bulgaria H.E. Mr. Fereidoun Haghbin.

Georgi Pirinski and Ambassador Haghbin voiced their satisfaction with the excellent level of the parliamentary contacts between the two countries, proof of which is the exchange of parliamentary visits in recent years. Both sides expressed readiness for further expanding and deepening of the bilateral parliamentary dialogue, as well as looking for possibilities to overcome the drop in the two-way trade.
