The European Parliament welcomed theBulgarian observers
26/09/2005
The European Parliament officially welcomed the Bulgarian observers in the plenary chamber. During the plenary session, they took part in the work of the political groups and parliamentary committees. The observers met with European Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn, the Association of European Parliamentarians and the EP Rapporteur for Bulgaria Geoffrey Van Orden.
The term of office of the eighteen Bulgarian MPs as observers at the European Parliament will continue until Bulgaria's accession to the EU. Their main task will be to acquaint themselves with the way the European Parliament functions. Each observer will be able to join one of the seven political groups of the European Parliament and participate in its work. The Bulgarian observer MPs will also be able to take part in the work of the EP's committees and delegations where they will be able to set forth their stands.
