Parliamentary Committee on Natural Disasters and Accidents Policy held a hearing on fires in Bulgaria

The Parliamentary Committee on Natural Disasters and Accidents Policy held an extraordinary meeting on 23 July 2007 giving a hearing concerning fires broke out in several areas in Bulgaria.
Andrey Ivanov, Director General of the National Civil Protection Service Directorate General, Nikolay Nikolov, Director of the National Fire Safety and Protection of Population Service, and Assen Ignatov, Deputy Director of the National Fire Safety and Protection of Population Service provided information about the problem.
The hearing was attended by Committee Members and MPs from the fire-hit areas.
According to Assen Ignatov, Deputy Director of the National Fire Safety and Protection of Population Service, the Service units were involved in fighting a total of 2818 fires in June 2007, 1943 of which are forest and crop fires. Fires in June 2007 are almost twice more than in the same period of 2006, he reported.
