Parliament adopts amendments to the Judicial System Act related to the training of junior prosecutors and judges
16/03/2011
The amendments were passed at first reading. The bill was tabled by Anastas Anastasov and a group of MPs from GERB and was adopted with the votes of 93 deputies. 18 members of the parliament voted against and 18 abstained. The amendments propose the training of future magistrates at the National Institute for Justice to be extended from six to nine months. At the end of the training the magistrates have to pass a written and oral exam. Those who are successful are appointed by the Supreme Judicial Council, according to their grades, at positions of their preference. Those who fail the exam will have to refund the grant provided for the training. The bill also proposes the procedures for evaluation of magistrates, begun already to be finalized in conformity with the current  law.
