The National Assembly has adopted the objectives of the draft Law on Forfeiture in Favor of the State of Illegally Acquired Assets, tabled by the Member of Parliament Krassimir Velchev. The draft Law on Forfeiture in Favor of the State of Illegally Acquired Assets aims at defending the society’s interests and at restoring its sense of justice by preventing and limiting the possibilities of acquiring and disposal of assets by unlawful means.

In order to achieve this purpose the law provides for restrictions on the ownership rights in preserving the rights of appeal of the persons targeted by the law, in order to prevent unjust withholding of assets.
The deputies decided also that the proceedings under this particular law will be carried regardless of the existence of an ongoing penal or penal – administrative process for the same charges, against the defendant or the group of persons linked to him.
